Tajikistan’s agricultural sector faces many constraints, including an unsustainable use and severe degradation of crop land and pastures and high vulnerability to climate change impacts. To guide the World Bank’s investments and policy dialogue regarding climate smart agriculture (CSA) in Tajikistan, Unique was commissioned to prepare a CSA analysis, which included (i) developing a climate-smart agriculture profile for the country, (ii) evaluating the potential for scaling up specific CSA practices, including identification of major barriers to their adoption, and (iii) conducting a comprehensive assessment for a climate-smart transformation of the livestock sector. The assignment is aligned with the Agrifood Sector Development Program for the period 2023-2030, approved by the Government of Tajikistan in March 2023.
- Analysis of the climate risks, existing CSA practices, and CSA-related policies and strategies
- Identification of CSA investment needs in major agricultural value chains
- Identification of major barriers to the adoption of CSA measures in select value chains
- Multi-stakeholder consultations on a CSA scaling strategy
- In-country workshops to present key findings
