The lack of investments is a key bottleneck for achieving forest landscape restoration (FLR) at scale. Unique was part of the consortium led by the United Nations Environment Programme for “Restoring Landscapes in South Africa (ReLISA): Nature-based solutions for climate, biodiversity and people” financed by the German International Climate Initiative (IKI). The objectives were i) to assess the feasibility of the proposed theory-of-change for upscaling of restoration of degraded thicket, savannah and grassland landscapes, ii) to liaise with relevant government authorities and stakeholders, and iii) to develop the project design based on a country mission and consultations. Unique contributed to the concept note with its extensive private-sector and restoration expertise, including voluntary carbon market projects and impact monitoring.
