In Bolivia, more than 200,000 hectares were deforestated every year during the last decade. Still, the deforestation rate and forest fires are increasing. Between 2015 and 2017, GIZ implemented the ProBosque project in the Chiquitania region to promote the sustainable management of natural forests, predominantly owned by indigenous communities. The first phase of this project aimed to increase revenues from non-timber forest products. GIZ commissioned the consortium UNIQUE/APCOB for the second phase of the project. It focused on the sustainable use and commercialization of timber products. The consortium was responsible for i) generating increased benefits for the communities through the commercialization of timber and non-timber forest products and ii) promoting gender equity in community management groups.
