Dune forests historically protected the North Central Coast of Vietnam from extreme weather, provided ecosystem services to communities, and provided a niche for rare bio-diversity. Decades of degradation have resulted in the loss of these essential forest ecosystems and exposed coastal communities to the effects of climate change. PrimaKlima e.V is an international not-for-profit organization that plants and protects forests worldwide. PimaKlima was interested in developing a coastal forest restoration (CFR) project in Vietnam that aimed toward certification under the new Plan Vivo Nature biodiversity standard. Due to their in-country presence and experience in CFR projects, Unique was chosen to conduct a pre-feasibility study of the project’s potential for certification.
- Assessment of the planned project against the certification standard requirements
- Identification of potential risks and mitigation actions
- Overview of project activity and monitoring options for biodiversity and community contributions
- Summary of cost implications for project alignment
