Mozambique’s Miombo forest provides many ecosystem services but faces significant challenges. Deforestation rates are alarming, threatening the country’s natural resources. To address this, the World Bank launched a study on “Supporting Integrated Management of Miombo Forest and Resilient Food Production in Zambezia.” Agriculture, vital to Mozambique’s development, must increase its productivity to realize its full potential. As part of this initiative, the project includes two in-depth analyses: one assessing the drivers of deforestation in Zambezia Province and another providing a high-level assessment of land degradation across Mozambique. Unique and GMV were contracted to conduct the econometric and emission price analysis and produce the agricultural suitability map.

  • Analysis of direct and indirect causes of deforestation in the Zambezia District
  • Econometric analysis of deforestation in each Zambezia Emission Reduction Program district
  • Emission price analysis to quantify the opportunity cost of forest preservation
  • Preparation of an agricultural suitability map
