Colombia has a high potential to develop its forestry and wood industry sector. Lack of development is primarily attributed to the prolonged civil conflict and lack of security that affected rural areas and deterred foreign investors’ interest. In 2011, the Government introduced the Action Plan for Commercial Reforestation, which among other things, targets reaching a planted forest area of 600,000 hectares by 2030. Most recently the Government, supported by the World Bank, is beginning to reorganize and digitalize land titles across the country with the aim of increasing transparency and providing greater legal clarity. This should lead to increased support and further investments in the forestry sector. Unique was commissioned to conduct market analysis of the existing supply and demand for cost-competitive wood products.
