The World Bank Bio-Carbon Fund Initiative for Sustainable Forest Landscapes (ISFL) supports the Oromia Forested Landscape Program (OFLP), which primarily focuses on reducing deforestation and forest degradation as well as net greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from land use in the Oromia Region of Ethiopia. Recently, ISFL expressed interest in including livestock emissions into the OFLP as part of a landscape-level approach. In order to do this, the ISFL methodology requires that a Tier 2 approach is used for estimating baseline emissions and monitoring from all significant GHG sinks and sources. UNIQUE assisted the OFLP and other relevant stakeholders to strengthen technical capacities in the estimation and reporting GHG emissions from livestock so that the Oromia Region is able to meet the ISFL emission reduction program requirements.
- To support the development of an improved Tier 2 livestock GHG inventory, specific to the Oromia region
- To assess data availability for implementing a livestock sector GHG accounting methodology
- To support the development of a livestock sector GHG accounting methodology
- To support OFLP capacity building for the implementation of an IFSL-approved livestock methodology
