Nepal is one of the world´s most vulnerable countries to climate change and has high rates of rural poverty. Climate change poses substantial risk to Nepal’s water resources, agriculture and food security, ecosystem health and local livelihoods. The FAO and the Government of Nepal are supporting the development of a cross-cutting Green Climate Fund (GCF) proposal for the Eastern Churia Region, to reduce emissions from deforestation and forest degradation and increase the resilience of ecosystems and communities. UNIQUE elaborated a feasibility study and a gender action plan to inform the proposal development process. Based on these studies, UNIQUE developed a GCF proposal and provide key inputs into the elaboration of an environmental and social management plan.

  • Assessment of land use change and climate change vulnerability.
  • Assessment of gender considerations and elaboration of gender action plan.
  • Quantification of greenhouse gas emission reductions and removals.
  • Elaboration of a feasibility study assessing potential measures for the proposal.
  • Identification of social and environmental risks and risk mitigation measures.
  • Elaboration of GCF proposal and financial plan.
