The extended Himalaya region is critical for the livelihoods of over 210 million people. In this region, the GIZ promoted two projects, implemented in cooperation with the International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development (ICIMOD), for the Himal-Hindukush region: “Promotion of transboundary landscape management of natural resources in the Himalaya” and the “Conservation of biodiversity in the Mt. Kailash region.” The two projects aimed to build the capacities of the administration in Nepal, India, and Tibet/China to sustainably manage these ecosystems using a transboundary approach, to implement participatory ecosystem management plans and to promote selected value chains for the generation of sustainable incomes. The assignment comprised the combined evaluation of the two GIZ projects.

  • Assessment of the overall development impacts of the two projects.
  • Review of the projects‘ knowledge management systems and their implementation.
  • Contribution to GIZ’s reporting obligations to the German Federal Ministry of Economic Cooperation.
  • Situation analysis as a starting point for a possible follow-up project.
