The Ecuadorian government is developing a Nationally Appropriate Mitigation Action (NAMA) in the agricultural sector to support their national climate change strategy and their international commitments under the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). Within the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, Aquaculture and Fisheries (MAGAP), three projects have been pre-selected as potential options to further develop into a NAMA. UNIQUE was commissioned by the GIZ to support the MAGAP and the Ministry of Environment and conducted a scoping mission to identify the most promising NAMA option. Furthermore, UNIQUE supported the development of a roadmap for the prioritized NAMA option to guide its eventual development and implementation.
- Scoping mission to identify and support the development of a NAMA in the agricultural sector.
- Analysis of the policy, economic, institutional and technical dimensions of proposed NAMA options.
- Assessment of the financial options for the NAMA design.
- Elaboration of a roadmap to develop, implement and monitor the NAMA with external finance.
