Multifunctional forestry and sustainable forest management in Europe are supported through policy and management approaches. The Seventh Framework Program of the EU funded the collaborative research project INTEGRAL “Future-oriented and integrated management of European forest landscapes” aims to better balance demands for a multitude of forest ecosystem goods and services (timber, biodiversity, water, soil, recreation). The project objectives were to analyze trade-offs between competing forest land uses and to provide solutions for effective forest management strategies, decision support tools and coherent policy instruments at the landscape level in ten countries. A synthesis was provided at EU level. UNIQUE coordinated the trans- and interdisciplinary research and dissemination tasks, and supported natural and social scientists and stakeholders.

  • Project management, scientific coordination and overall project synthesis.
