SACAU

The Southern African Confederation of Agricultural Unions (SACAU) represents the interests of many farmers in southern Africa. SACAU contributes actively to the Comprehensive Africa Agricultural Development Programme (CAADP) by supporting the formulation of action plans and investment frameworks. The CAADP review of 2012 identified the following steps as necessary to counter climate change: program design on climate‐smart agriculture; and screening of country plans for integration of climate change mitigation and adaptation programs. As a result, SACAU led the conceptualization of a farmers’ work program on climate change in the region. Its main objective was to catalyze national and regional actions by individual farmers, their associations and other relevant stakeholders to achieve a transformation towards a climate-smart agriculture.

  • Support the development of a climate change work program for farmers.
  • Capacity and delivery assessment of SACAU member organizations.
  • Elaboration of a work plan towards climate-smart agriculture.
  • Comprehensible information on climate-smart agriculture techniques for farmers.
  • Support peer-to-peer capacity building on climate-smart agriculture.
