The International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development (ICIMOD) implemented the project “Design and setting up of a governance and payment system for Nepal’s Community Forest Management under REDD” in cooperation with the Asia Network for Sustainable Agriculture and Bioresources (ANSAB) and the Federation of community Forestry Users Nepal (FECOFUN). The project sought to demonstrate the feasibility of REDD+ payment mechanisms in the context of community forests in Nepal. The immediate outcome of the project was the initiation of a framework for REDD+ strategies at the national and local level so that the model demonstrated can be readily up-scaled by the Government of Nepal when a national REDD+ payment mechanism is officially launched. The project was implemented in three watersheds in representative ecological regions in Nepal.
- Participatory carbon project development process.
- Facilitation of training workshop with all project stakeholders.
- Participatory project design and elaboration of basic features of a REDD+ carbon project.
- Development of a Verified Carbon Standard (VCS) project description.
- Integration of eligibility assessment, baseline and project scenario development.
- Integration of additionality, leakage and permanence assessment.
- Estimation of ex-ante emission reduction.
