Implementation of the Second National Forest Inventory

Ecuador´s forests are biologically diverse, and have the potential to support the country´s socio-economic development if sustainably managed. To optimize the management, conservation and sustainable use of forest resources, reliable and accurate data is required. UNIQUE was contracted by the Ministry of Environment for the initial implementation of the second national forest evaluation of continental Ecuador, financed by the German development bank KfW. UNIQUE compiled data on forest resources in the Ecuadorian Amazon through the implementation of forest inventories. The results are indispensable in the context of the national strategy for reducing emissions from deforestation and forest degradation (REDD+).
