Central America covers 1% of the earth’s surface, but has about 8% of the world’s terrestrial biodiversity. At the same time, it is the tropical region most affected by the effects of climate change. Soil degradation, forest degradation and monocultures increase vulnerability to the effects of climate change. The GIZ supports the Central American Commission for Environment and Development (CCAD) through the REDD CCAD program. It promotes country-specific financing mechanisms for CO2 emission reduction, forest protection, forest management and the maintenance of ecosystem services in Central America and the Caribbean. UNIQUE was commissioned to design a new project with partners in the region.
- Development of a comprehensive strategy for the new project.
- Selection of appropriate instruments.
- Estimation of the project impacts.
- Draft project proposal for the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development.
