Selva Maya Natural Resources Protection Project

The Selva Maya lies in the border area between Mexico, Belize and Guatemala. It is the largest tract of tropical forest north of the Amazon. The forest ecosystem located outside the protected areas is threatened by demographic pressure and increasing unsustainable use of natural resources. Additionally, the institutions managing the protected areas lack the capacity to properly manage the forest. Financed by the KfW, the regional office for Mexico, Central America and the Caribbean (ORMACC) of the International Union for Conservation of Nature assigned the consortium IP Consult, UNIQUE and ECO with the elaboration of the feasibility study “Natural Resources Protection Project in the Selva Maya”.
