Despite economic growth, many areas of rural Georgia have high poverty rates. Due to the lack of income opportunities, natural resources are often overused. Against this background, the GIZ supports the national forest administration in reforming the forestry sector. The GIZ commissioned UNIQUE to conduct pilot-based planning and monitoring of a forest inventory and the elaboration of a management plan for 3,000 hectares of forest in the district of Dedoplistskaro. Additionally, UNIQUE developed an energy wood supply concept. Upon successful completion of the assignment, the experience gained from this pilot project will be applied for the introduction of standardized forest management planning in Georgia.
- Inventory planning, trainings and quality control of the inventory implementation.
- Elaboration of a ten-year forest management plan.
- Analysis of firewood demand and alternative supply models.
- Development of an energy wood supply concept.
