Integrated Forest Planning System and Forest Management Plan

Green Resources is a private company holding a 126,000 hectare concession from the Government of Mozambique since 2009. The European Investment Bank (EIB) recently approved the “Lurio Forestry Plantation and Carbon Sequestration Project,” whereby Green Resources will afforest up to 20,000 hectares by 2018. To date 1,640 hectares have been planted with fast growing timber species. UNIQUE supported Green Resources in the design and development of the project, with the objective of ensuring project implementation is in line with international best practices and meets international social and environmental standards. Three major results were expected: a) A forest management plan has been approved and is shared with the public; b) An integrated forest plantation management and information system is in place; c) The funding requirements of EIB are met.
