‘Nationally Appropriate Mitigation Actions’ or NAMAs are voluntary actions for reducing greenhouse gas emissions in developing countries. Together with the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC) Government of India, GIZ is implementing a project with the title “Development and Management of NAMA in India” under the Indo-German bilateral cooperation. The Government of India has chosen the waste and forestry sector for the development of two NAMA concepts. UNIQUE and its consortium partner, Indian Ocean Rim Association (IORA), were selected to develop a NAMA for forestry in India and a corresponding, thorough measuring, reporting and verification (MRV) system.
- Specification of NAMA objectives and selection of mix of instruments.
- Definition of baselines.
- Design of monitoring and evaluation plan.
- Outline of the NAMA planning process and development of a capacity development strategy.
- Identification of needed resources.
