Feasibility Study for a Rangeland Carbon Project for the Limpopo National Park

Rangeland degradation is one of the greatest land use challenges in southern Africa, leading to the encroachment of local cattle into wildlife areas and resulting in human-wildlife conflicts. At the same time, rangeland restoration offers possibilities to store large amounts of carbon in the soil while sensitizing the local population on topics such as animal health and wildlife conservation. Therefore, a locally active non-governmental organisation intends to upscale their rangeland restoration efforts by anchoring current rangeland restoration activities in a Verified Carbon Standard & Climate, Community, and Biodiversity Standard carbon project. Unique was selected to assess the feasibility of such a project and to lay the foundation of a future project description document.
