Kenya’s Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries and Kenya Dairy Board are currently developing a proposal to promote low-emission dairy sector development. The proposal aims to improve processes to reduce emissions while benefitting farmers, companies and other stakeholders. The three focal areas are: (i) on-farm dairy intensification, (ii) promotion of biogas and (iii) energy efficiency improvements in cooling and processing. Women play a key role in a range of activities related to dairy development and energy use. The Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research (CGIAR) contracted UNIQUE in the framework of its Research Program on Climate Change, Agriculture and Food Security (CCAFS) to design strategies and measures to be included in the proposal and ensure activities effectively increase opportunities for women and youth.
