The WWF Cameroon’s Coastal Forest Program supports the conservation of important ecosystems through environmental education and the provision of alternative livelihoods in the Bakossi landscape, an isolated rural area in Cameroon’s Southwest region. WWF’s activities will now be expanded to include an environmental advocacy strategy, whereby civil society will be supported to better advocate for their environmental rights. UNIQUE has been contracted to develop this advocacy strategy in collaboration with local and national civil society organizations. Upon validation of the strategy, UNIQUE will organize and facilitate a two-day workshop whereby local communities in the Bakossi landscape will learn about environmental advocacy and their rights and obligations with regards to the environment.
- Identify and document opportunities for rural communities to derive benefits from the environment.
- Sensitization of rights and obligations for local communities living around national parks.
- Scoping of Bakossi landscape for promising civil society partners to support strategy development.
- Coach civil society partners to identify policy gaps that merit environmental advocacy.
- Development of environmental advocacy strategy for Bakossi landscape.
- Carry out comprehensive training workshop on environmental advocacy.
